about us

welcome!

Redstone Quarries originated in 1989 just north of Flynns’ Corners, Buckhorn ON. Founded by two Sir Sanford Fleming College Professors: Terry Exworth & Ron Morgan. They wanted to use their expertise in heavy equipment, blasting and geology, to capitalize on the emerging Landscaping Stone industry. The original site was cut into the edge of an escarpment, and had four very unique layers of stone. Grey, Beige, Green and Red. Hence Redstone Quarries was born.

As the company progressed and they began to carve out their place in the market they brought in fellow Professor Ted Sturman in 1994. By the end of that summer Ted also saw the potential and began purchasing shares of the company. As the company expanded and the founders retired Ted was able to purchase Redstone in its entirety and continues to be the owner and president today.

The original site was completed and rehabilitation finished in 2002. Over the next few years Redstone Quarries moved to several local sites searching for the quality of stone our customers had grown accustomed to, and with the acreage to make it our permanent home.

Redstone Quarries finds excellent location for an Armour Stone Quarry!

Finally in 2005 Success! Redstone Quarries purchased a piece of land on County Rd 49 just outside of Bobcaygeon. We then began the process of reports and studies that are necessary to obtain a Ministry of Natural Resources Aggregate License.

Then in January 2009 we received the licence for our 100 acre site and are still one of the few quarries in the area that does not operate on Crown Land. That’s when the hard labour began. We immediately began building an entrance, a road and began preparing the site for extracting stone. All the while supplying our customers from other locations.

The first load of stone was hauled from our new site the summer of 2009. From there Redstone Quarries has never looked back. We gradually ceased operations at other locations. Once we had the amour stone supply established we began to looking into the next phase of expansion. We began leasing crushing space in 2013, installing our weigh scales in 2013 and continuing to update and replace our equipment. Last year we are pleased to say we purchased a crusher of our own so we can continue to grow and offer new products.

As a Conservationist and Sportsman, Ted is proud that we are able to grow and expand while promoting a wildlife management program for the deer, moose, turkeys and bears that continue to reside within our site.

We recently celebrated 10 years at this new site and this July we will celebrate 30 years in business!
